What are intro suggestions?

When you write your first message to someone new on a compatible iOS device, we offer optional suggestions to help you make a strong first impression — such as conversation topics based on shared interests, and guidance on message length. These suggestions are powered by Apple Intelligence, Apple's on-device AI system.

What information is used to generate suggestions?

To generate suggestions, Apple Intelligence analyzes:

Your public profile information
The recipient's public profile information
Your message draft as you type it

Your draft message is processed entirely on your device, is not shared with Apple or us, and is not used to train Apple's AI models. For more details, see About Apple Intelligence.

Can I turn off intro suggestions?

Yes. You can turn off intro suggestions at any time.

On your device: Disable Apple Intelligence entirely from within your iPhone Settings (Settings→ Apple Intelligence & Siri).

Turning off suggestions does not affect your ability to send messages normally. Please note that if you disable intro suggestions, when other members write you a first message, their device may still generate suggestions based on your public profile information.

Is Apple Intelligence available on my device?

Apple Intelligence is available on iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and all iPhone 16 models running iOS 18.1 or later, with the device language and Siri language set to supported languages. If your device does not support Apple Intelligence, intro suggestions will not be available.
